Results day... and after!
Level 3 results day can be a really exciting, and nerve-wracking, time. One part of results day that can make you the most nervous is waiting to see if you’ve got into your first or second choice university. Whatever happens on results day, and after, you still have lots of options open to you, and lots of exciting choices ahead.

Plan A:
-
If everything goes according to plan, you might be going to your first or insurance choice university. If you’ve met the conditions of your offer, then you will be accepted.
-
You should get an email from your university congratulating you on your results and confirming your place.
-
You can also log into UCAS and it will show as “final place confirmed”
-
Then you can celebrate and start getting ready for university! Click here for more information on preparing to start university.

Plan B (Clearing):
-
If you didn’t meet the conditions of your firm or insurance choice, you can be entered into Clearing. This allows you to apply for a course that still has places available. (Thousands of students each year find their university place in Clearing).
-
Don’t panic! There are some simple steps to follow to make this process easier.
-
Use the UCAS Tarriff Calculator to figure out how many UCAS points you now have.
-
Use UCAS Course Search to find available places that you like the look of.
-
Make or shortlist of maybe 5 universities and courses that you like the look of. Depending on what grades you achieved, you might want to look into a course that includes a foundation year – but the university can inform you if they feel this is necessary.
-
Call your shortlist of universities. Start with the one you’d like the most and work your way down. If you get an offer from your favourite choice then you can stop there – or you can keep calling others so that you can see what your options are.
-
Once you have an offer that you like, you can add it to your UCAS account. This will then be confirmed by the university and you’re ready to go!
-

Plan B (Change of plan):
-
Regardless of whether you got the grades, or got into your firm or insurance choice of university, you might be thinking about a change of plan.
-
This could be a gap year – click here for more information.
-
You might have changed your mind about the course, or the university, and want to apply elsewhere. That’s completely fine, you can decline your place and release yourself into Clearing to make an alternative choice. (We advise securing an alternative offer before you decline any current one!) View the Clearing instructions above for guidance on doing this.
-
You might have had a change in circumstance that means that you won’t be able to do to university this year – but you still want to go in the future. You can call your university choice and ask if they would be willing to defer your place for a year. This means that they will keep a place for you to start on your chosen course the following year, without you having to reapply.
